Dear Carthay Families:
I am excited to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year! Hopefully, the summer has given you many memorable opportunities to spend time with family and friends. It continues to be an honor and privilege to serve as the principal of such an exemplary and student-centered learning community. As we prepare to embark on another year, I am reminded that the beginning of school is truly a special time, and I am eagerly looking forward to partnering with you as we continue to nurture the ongoing development of your child. Fortunately, our school continues to be a team of exceptionally talented and committed staff that is anchored by a supportive Local District West Administration and Board of Education.
All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff is already planning and preparing for your child (ren). Our enthusiastic office team is registering new families, ordering needed materials and updating student files. Our hard working and conscientious custodians have spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility. And, our much-appreciated PTA is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer other exciting events and programs. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students and promoting high-level learning.
Throughout the year, I look forward to meeting the new members of our community and connecting with returning community members. I encourage families to get to know each other so that we can build new friendships and support each other as the need arises. You will have a great opportunity to meet new people and see old friends at the Annual Meet and Greet on Friday, August 9, from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm. Classroom assignments will be posted.
A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement. Careful consideration was given to input from staff as well as student learning styles. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level. Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities.
Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. ALL of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students.
School begins on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 8:15 am and classroom assignments will be posted on campus that morning. Our first bell will ring at 8:15am with the second bell at 8:20 am to signal the start of the school day. Dismissal will be at 1:44 pm every Tuesday to allow teachers to participate in professional development. Dismissal will be at 2:44pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. TK and Kindergarten classes will be dismissed from the Kinder yard to reduce the congestion at our dismissal gates. CHANGE to TRUCK GATE
When you arrive on August 12, please proceed to the yard where teachers will be waiting to meet their class. Each teacher will have a sign with their name and room number of his or her class for easy identification. When the bell rings, teachers will take their class to the classroom. Please help us reduce traffic congestion and confusion by saying goodbye to your child at the gate or the lineup area.
Thank you to all who are helping prepare for the new school year. Your commitment to ensuring that Carthay Environmental Studies Magnet remains a celebrated and successful school is awe-inspiring. I eagerly look forward to greeting students and families again. Please stop by and say hello. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children.

Me complace darles la bienvenida al año escolar 2024-2025. Ojalá el verano les haya dado muchas oportunidades memorables al compartir tiempo con familiares y amigos. Sigue siendo un honor y un privilegio servir como directora de un grupo ejemplar donde la prioridad es el aprendizaje estudiantil. A medida que nos preparamos para iniciar otro año, me recuerda que el comienzo escolar es verdaderamente un tiempo especial, y me da gusto poder asociarme con ustedes y juntos poder nutrir el desarrollo académico continuo de su hijo/a. Afortunadamente, nuestra escuela sigue contando con un equipo de talento excepcional y un personal comprometido apoyado por la Administración Local del Oeste (Local District West) y la Junta Educativa.
Todos los indicios apuntan a otro increíble y productivo año escolar. Nuestro personal dedicado ya está planeando y haciendo preparativos para el ingreso de su(s) hijo(s). Nuestro equipo entusiasta de la oficina está inscribiendo a nuevos estudiantes, ordenando materiales necesarios y actualizando archivos. El grupo de mantenimiento ha pasado el verano entero limpiando el plantel. También nuestro apreciado grupo de padres (PTA) se está preparando para recibir a las familias, ofrecer oportunidades de voluntariado, y otros eventos y programas. Realmente somos una comunidad compasiva y alegre con los objetivos comunes de alimentar a los alumnos a que sean responsables y respetuosos y favorecer el aprendizaje de alto nivel.
A lo largo del año espero poder conocer a los nuevos miembros de nuestra comunidad escolar y conectar con los antiguos miembros. Invito a las familias a conocerse uno a otro y crear nuevas amistades y apoyarse mutuamente cuando surja la necesidad. Tendrá una gran oportunidad de conocer gente nueva y ver a viejos amigos en el Meet and Greet anual el viernes 9 de agosto, de 11:30 a. m. a 1:30 p. m. Se publicarán las tareas del salón de clases. Ese día también tendremos las listas por maestro con los nombres de los alumnos.
Le dedicamos mucho tiempo y atención al asignar a los alumnos en las aulas adecuadamente. Se consideró la información proporcionada por el personal educativo al igual que los estilos de aprendizaje de cada estudiante. Las aulas han sido equilibradas académica y socialmente. Las listas de clase están estructuradas para proporcionar equitativamente el número de alumnos en cada nivel de grado. El cambiar a un alumno de aula es difícil sin causar desequilibrios y desigualdades.
Muchas gracias por ser positivo con su hijo/a y ayudarle a él o ella entender lo difícil que es colocar a todos los estudiantes con un mejor amigo o con su maestro/a preferido/a. Todo el personal trabaja duro para que TODO alumno tenga una experiencia positiva en la escuela.
El primer día de clase es el martes 12 de agosto del 2024 a las 8:20 am. Las listas de cada maestro/a con el nombre de sus alumnos también estarán disponibles esa mañana. El primer timbre sonará a las 8:15 am y el segundo a las 8:20 am indicando el inicio de la jornada escolar. Los martes la la salida será a la 1:44 pm para permitirles a los maestros participar en reuniones de desarrollo profesional. La salida los lunes, miércoles, jueves y viernes será a las 2:44 pm. Los alumnos de Kinder Transicional y Kinder saldrán por el portón del patio de Kinder y así reducir la congestión en las otras salidas.
Cuando lleguen a la escuela en la mañana del 12 de agosto, por favor pasen al patio donde los maestros estarán esperando a sus alumnos. Cada maestro/a tendrá una pancarta con su nombre y el número de su aula para que lo puedan identificar fácilmente. Cuando suene el timbre, los maestros caminarán con sus alumnos a su aula correspondiente. Les pedimos que se despidan de sus hijos en el portón o en la línea donde se forman para reducir cualquier confusión y congestión.
Gracias a todos los que están ayudando en la preparación de la apertura del nuevo año escolar. Su compromiso en asegurarse que Carthay permanezca una escuela reconocida y exitosa es muy inspirante. Espero con ilusión poder saludar a los estudiantes y familias de nuevo. Les pido que pasen a saludarme. Estoy segura que unidos haremos este año escolar uno de crecimiento y progreso académico de todos los alumnos.
